    HI,
Here's my question: I have a Laptop with 7 pin S-Video and my LCD TV has a 4 pin S-Video. Will this work? Do they make a cable for this? Or do I have to use the VGA to VGA connection? Thanks for any help/advice.

If your TV has a vga in port, then go ahead and use that. It will work just fine.

You should definately use the VGA connection if your tele supports it. You'll get much better resolution than you would from the S-Video.

If you really want to use S-Video, then try one of these (although that one would require a 7 pin male to 7 pin male as well). I also read in a couple of places that you could just plug a 4 pin cable into the 7 pin slot, but I can't verify that for myself and I don't know if you want to risk breaking your lappy.

Ok, Thanks for suggestions. My TV does have VGA option. I'll go with VGA if it's better resolution. Goal is to use Laptop as a free TiVo unit. So how about sound? Can I go from Laptop headphone jack to TV red and white component? Will that make sound come out of TV instead of Laptop?

Yes, the audio setup will work. Just need a Y-cable like you use to hook your iPod up to a stereo.

On a side note, I just came across this post in the HP forum and I figured I'd better pass it along. Basically, there is an adapter for that 7 pin S-video port which will convert it to component cable (which if your TV has VGA it probably has component). Component will get you HD resolution and you might already have some of those lying around.

I use a DVI>HDMI to hook up to my TV, but had I known about this option, I might have given that a try.

Excellent find, I think I'll try that. I have a Fry's right around the corner from work. Thanks again!

Forget about S-Video. S-Video support a max 0f 450 lines and is pretty much useless at any resolution above 640x480. Use VGA.

You're probably not gonna like the S-Video pic quality. Save your receipt.
