Recently I installed my own RAM on my Acer Aspire which turned out to be a bad idea. I finally got it all working but I have to use it without putting the screws in so the keyboard basically rests on top. I'm sure I messed something up when I opened just not sure which part this could be. I can tighten the screws closet to the touchpad, but when I tighten 1 or 2 screws near the USB ports the screen flickers and shuts off and doesn't turn back on. If I take it all apart again and then put it back together it fixes it and turns back on. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks very much.

You may be shorting something on the motherboard. Did you label the screws somehow so you know what goes where when putting things back together?

Yes all the screws were put back right. I'm fairly certain I put it back together right but I may have nudged something slightly to cause this. I am not sure.

Probably pinching/shorting a wire or, a soldered joint has cracked and is contacting something it shouldn't.

Could be metal shavings from the screws or screw posts. It could also be the metal keyboard frame pressing on a contact somewhere.

Try cleaning the area with compressed air. You may want to put electrical tape or kapton tape on the motherboard around the area where the keyboard rests and around the keyboard's retention screws.

Usually kapton or mylar tape is used in those situations. Did any tape get cut when you were working on it?

Acer laptops are often just super weird and unintuitive. My Acer V15 Nitro gaming laptop, which was quite expensive, has wonkiness such as a single screw on the bottom that needs to be screwed in tight to complete the circuit and for the laptop to turn on and function at all. Figuring this out may take some high-level problem solving.
