The first thing you should have done was shut the system off, and remove all power sources including the battery. What's done is done though. Water may have seeped down to your motherboard or another internal component and caused a short circuit. It could mean you need a new motherboard, but there are things you can try first.

First thing I would do if I were you is take the laptop apart and thoroughly dry any wet components. Then using isopropyl alcohol and some cotton swabs, carefully clean the motherboard and then let it dry. After everything is clean and completely dry, put it back together. Hopefully it will work. Others will suggest putting the motherboard in rice for a couple of days to dry it, but I had a similar situation as yours and was able to get the motherboard working by cleaning it with alcohol.

Friend I advise doing what Mr kosti says. This rice is nothing more than an urban myth

Not really. But once the damage is done it can't undo it. It's only if you got water on it and powered it down immediately before any damage could have been done that the rice would dry any water that made its way in any cracks or crevices.

But yeah, it's worth the effort to clean it with alcohol, and even buy some toothbrushes from the dollar store to scrub those hard to reach areas (like in connectors) that might have had water go in.

I've done the test of rice and not solved, cleaned with alcohol and a lot of patience and got to work. But it may be that in some cases the rice settle, I give the benefit of the doubt.....

The problem with rice is if you have created the traces with the water that causes a crash just removing the remaining moisture will usually not fix it. The scrubbing with alcohol MAY fix it as long as a component did not fry.

I would say that probably the motherboard needs to be replaced, but there's no knowing for sure if any other components were damaged as well.
