I currently have an Acer 6920, and while the keyboard is alright, it definitely does not compare to some other keyboards I've used, such as an older Thinkpad. So, I'm kind of in the process of shopping for a new laptop, and I'm wondering which companies are known to have the best keyboards.

Dell Latitude/Precision
Lenovo ThinkPad
They are known to be the best. But this is highly subjective.
I love my Dell Vostro's Keyboard, and I like the Envy 15 one.
Strangely the Apple one is odd to use, and I didnt like it.
The Pavilion line does not meet my expectations on KB.
The Sony ones have good KB, but not exactly my type. -
I didn't really like Apple keyboards much myself. I'm thinking neither Lenovo or Dell are really big on AMD right now, right?
-
What does the CPU has to do with the tipping experience? You want a AMD CPU? There is the Dm3 from HP, supposedly it is good. I suggest you give it a try at any store that might have it.
But no, neither Dell nor Lenovo have AMD based laptops on that range.
Oh, there is also some HP ProBooks, and IIRC the NBR Review had good things to say about one model with a good KB... -
Because I'm a bit of an AMD fan, and I'd like to have laptop with a decent keyboard and also an AMD CPU.
-
HP Probooks some have them.
HP DM3
Some MSI, Asus, Toshiba, Gateway.
But good keyboards? It is highly subjective.
For example some people LOVE the Apple ones. I cannot tolerate long tipping session on one.
I love my old KB, but it is terrible to write for some. You make tons of typos, since the keys are laid out in a very flat way, and they all feel the same thing (hard to explain) but I can say I can type REALLY fast here without seeing. -
Alright, thanks. I think I'll go check out some of the DM3s when I can.
-
Lenovos are nice, even the cheap series like the N3000 have very nice tactile feedback, or off course , a Thinkpad.
-
Just to add, what laptops currently have eSATA? I'm sick of using USB 2.0 for my External HDD.
-
Samsung Q320 has a great keyboard, and also has eSATA.
-
Dell ones have eSATA and pretty much every consumer notebook nowadays has an eSATA
-
I dunno, HPs and Lenovos don't seem to have them.
-
I think the SXPS keyboards are awesome. Great fee, solid built, thin, and great arrangement of keys. Arrow keys are not 1/2 size, and not French.
-
-
I love my Dell Studio 15's backlit keyboard. Very sturdy, and just the right response. And of course, the backlighting.
It also has eSATA.

Have you looked at the HP site at all? HP dv, HDX, Elitebook, Envy... they all have eSATA. Or you can wiki/Google a pic and find it on the laptop itself at BB/FS. Or you can read NBR reviews of HP laptops.
-
I'd second the Elitebook's keyboards. Although pretty much every laptop I've typed on has a pretty good keyboard.
I'm starting to like the fact 12" laptops have their function keys so close to the numbers row. I can hit F1 -F4 confidently without having to feel for it. Typically, I would look for F1 or F4 and then feel for F2 -F3 from there. -
why BRANDS?
Brands have several models, each one with a different keyboard. it can be a very good or very bad keyboard. Don't be narrowminded and don't believe that X brand is "better" than Y.
compare models.
for example I love the sony vaio TT carbon fiber keyboard. -
Well, normally some brands are known to use better keyboards and give better keyboard support than others, and it is valid to ask which brand, but as it is highly subjective this, it is up to those answering to say which brand they like and why.
I like my dell vostro 1000 keyboard, I am very used to it, and as much as I torture it on regular basis, it has proven to be very reliable and resistant. There is not flex at all, and I type very strong and with the laptop with no support in the middle (between my legs), and it has done quite a good job. -
Maybe you should ask what brand the keyboard is... just like screens, some are better than others (especially when companies such as Lenovo and Dell use multiple sources).
-
I dunno, I've always thought that Lenovo used some of the best keyboard; HP too maybe?
-
From experience, Thinkpad and HP's business notebooks have the best keyboards. They are also consistent in feel.
Laptops/Brands with the best keyboards?
