I've been looking around web sites, and it seems like this is harder to find than I expect. Does anyone know which laptops are available with WUXGA screens? I'm more interested in 17" models, but I know there are 15.4" models too.

The new 17" MacBook Pro has the option for WUXGA (Apple calls this the "High-Resolution Widescreen Display").

    For 15.4" - ThinkPad T61p, Dell Latitude D830 and HP Compaq 8510w

    For 17" - HP Compaq 8710w and Clevo M570RU

All of these are new Santa Rosa models.

If I'm not mistake alienware has a WUXGA in a 15.4" model as well but AW tends to be more expensive than they are worth. Sager also has a WUXGA model.

15.4" WUXGA results in very small text. Are you sure that's what you want? I think that resolution is more suited to a 17" screen--because even then, text can appear very small (used to have one).

Dreamer listed the ones that I can think of--particularly the Dell.

If your font/text is ever small just adjust it in your control panel. Also browsers like firefox have a zoom function you can use.

You can get and idea on how big the text will look by looking at the Screen DPI guide in my sig.

I agree that this resolution is probably better suited to a 17" screen, and I'm surprised at how few of them there seem to be. A lot of places don't offer it as an option on 17" at all.

The alienware 9750 and 9700 have the option, as does the dell xps m1710. Hp's new 20 inch (Chiropractor anyone?) is also rumored to have the option

I always recommend WUXGA 15.4" laptops. The HP Compaq 8510w and Dell Latitude D830 are good choices. Will the Lenovo Thinkpad T61P (15.4") have WUXGA resolution? If it does, that will be another good choice.

orev, very few 17" will have dual CCFL lamps. the Asus G2S is an all new screen with dual lamps and most likely first on the scene with it.
My sig link is a great lcd comparison and the new G2S should be that good if not better
