    Largest Capacity 1.8" Hard Drive?

    Just wondering what the largest capacity 1.8" SATA hard drive would be, and what the highest RPM available is (5400? 7200?)... and where can you buy them? I can't find them on NewEgg.

    I'm asking primarily because the HP Elitebook 2530p only takes 1.8" SATA hard drives if using an optical drive.

    I know there are high performance 1.8" SSD's.

    But AFAIK 320 GB is the highest they go and that size may not have even been released yet.

    The largest 1.8" drive is 250Gb from Toshiba (i cant remember if its 5400rpm or 4200rpm)
    I know it costs like $200 though
    But the reviews are not so hot for it
    I believe it can only do 30mb/sec with a seek rate of 26ms

    Your better off buying an SSD like the M-TRON Mobi 3000 for speed and performance.
    Even the fastest mechanical 1.8" drive is really slow, so your not getting anything other than capacity
    Their are no 7200rpm 1.8"drives
    they range from 2200rpm to 5400rpm

    the mtrons are NOT sata. that notebook has sata. i have an 128gb sata from samsung in my 2730p right now. it's not as fast as the mtron, but still very fast. and 4x the storage is nice, too :)

    There's 64GB 220/200 1.8" Samsung MLC SSD on EBAY Germany for $169 euro. Amazingly fast and incredible value. http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260389498705. Anyone wanna grab the 9 left and onsell?

    There 128mb 90/70 1.8" Samsung SLC SSD on ebay that goes for > $300US. The 5400rpm 30MB/S 1.8" HDD's are poor value in this company, IMHO.

    Someone postulated the idea of using drive compression to extend the space on a SSD. Would seem a reasonable thing to do..

    i got the 128gb for 200$ :)

    still, the 64gb one looks interesting, just because of the speed... :) but it's mlc btw. just as a note.

    Doesn't Intel have a 160GB X18-M? I'm not in the market for 1.8" drives so I haven't checked if they are actually in stock...

    no.. but if they will, it may be another drive change.. :) (i finally have to get those micro-sata adapters to work so i can put the "old" ones into pc's in a useful way :))

    Lenovo 1.8" to 2.5" adapter
    Lenovo 1.8" to 2.5" adapter if need 2.5". Lenovo part number 42W7888 or 42W8019 (newer, lighter). Can check your country's Lenovo parts website for local price. There a couple more pics of the adapter here.

    davepermen - some closeup photos of your 2730P SATA 1.8" cable (so I can follow the tracks to pins) may help me to put that 220/200 Samsung MLC SSD into a 2510P (if I can find SATA I/O lines as detailed here :)

    I know. now it's easter time and i have some free time to fiddle around with the notebooks again. i had to use them for a big gig last weekend so i couldn't mess around with them.

    i had bought a micro-sata to sata cable, something like this:

    but there is no hdd visible to set up vista on it when booting (and it didn't even spin up i think).

    is this a 3.3V -> 5V thingy? can i fix this?

    Nice detailed preview on the Samsung Flash SSD, I like Samsung HDDs they are very reliable even if you accidentally drop them..
