I am looking to up grade my d600.
    Current Specs:

    Pentium M 1.4GHz Processor
    512MB PC 2100 DDR2 Memory
    40 Gigs Hard Drive
    CD Rom
ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 Video card
    802.11 wireless card

    New Specs:

For the processor, i saw this on a D610 and i wanted to know if it would be compatible with D600:

    Intel Pentium M 760 Dothan 2.0GHz 2MB L2 Cache Socket 478 27-31W Single-Core Processor
    1 Gig Memory card
    160Gig Hard Drive
    DVD+RW

when i first bought the computer is primarily for net, word processing, and video. Than i became more involved in playing games on it, so thats the reason why i wanted to upgrade it. This would be my first up grade.

    I'm open to suggestions.

Buying a new gaming machine will be better, but just for the record, you can upgrade upto 2GB RAM, probably a 160GB HDD (if the BIOS supports 48-bit LBA) and to a Pentium 7x5 ('cause I think the D600 has the 855PM chipset).

If you do decide to upgrade to 2GB, ensure you buy PC2700 DDR SODIMM, not DDR2 (there isn't really such a DDR2 PC2700 module but you never know what someone will try to sell you).

Well, all 3 I would say. Pentium Ms are cheap on ebay.

RAM to 1GB, and HDD to 80GB (Samsung HM080GC) should be fine.

I am not sure if your notebook can utilize HDDs above 137GB. It'll last you a couple of years more, but won't improve your gaming experience much.

I'd upgrade the RAM first - going from 512MB to 1GB or 2GB will make a huge difference. Also, upgrading the hard drive to a 7200RPM version will also significantly improve performance - faster boot up, faster program loading, etc.

I agree with many of the other posters though - you're basically throwing money into a hole with this laptop. You could get a brand new laptop with a dedicated video card for gaming for $700, or $500 - $600 if you go used/refurbished.

You'd better pay more attention to good notebook deals. Nowadays you can get quite decent new laptops with $500~600 if you are patient and diligent enough to find a good deal.

Other than ebay, what would be a good site to find gaming laptops, at a low price?

Slickdeals, maybe fatwallet. Ofcourse, if you look in the discussion forum, you will see the Deal section. You might find some there.

Other than that, the cheap gaming laptops people are raving about currently is the Gateway 7XXX. Check the gateway forum too.
