I read where some people say their notebook LCD has a 1/4" leakage. What is leakage?

The only thing I can think of is that they mean light leakage from around the screen. Usually people are more specific.

Yeah, it just means light leakage......... it's noticeable as a part of the screen where light from the backlight leaks out and is brighter than it would normally be (most noticeable when displaying all black on the screen).

Usually people consider it an annoyance because it can interfere with things like watching movies with dark scenes and so forth.
