    Hi,
I would really appreciate if someone could help me figure out whats wrong with my battery.

It appears dead because my laptop wont run on the battery. It wont even recognize the battery when its plugged in. Therefore I have to run it on external power supply.

When I plug the battery in, it blinks “red light” 5 times and then stops blinking. What does this mean?

    THanks in advance.

You should look in your manual what 5 red blinks mean or possibly Google it.
I think that your battery is or has gone bad.

I had a similar problem and unfortunately it was my battery. I didn't know I had to drain the battery fully and then recharge it fully the first time I got the dang laptop. Because of this and because I was constantly charging it and not using it mobile (not plugged in) enough, this damaged the battery. I had to buy a new battery since the warranty on this part had expired. I still had to send it into repair just to make sure it wasn't the mother board. Good Luck
