The dual core, 64bit enabled, twice the L2 Cache system is worth ten of the Celeron systems in my books.

But, what will you be using it for?

You'll also appreciate the extra gig of RAM and possibly the larger hard drive.

The 743 is a little slow....

Dual all the way. Singles core's are way to slow for most stuff now a days

i will be using it for university work, browsing internet, watching tv/movies-not just on the screen but connected to my 32"tv via the hdmi.
this is a temp laptop for the next few months until new laptops come out, then ill buy a laptop for around £1000 to last 3-5 years.
Is there any other laptop you recommend that will be able to perform those tasks well for no more than £300-350? i have tried asus and the trackpads are terrible.

I have the Asus U30Jc and it is the best touchpad I have used (I prefer ThinkPAD TrackPoints) but don't know what the price is in your area.

I can only say if this is an in-between purchase until a 'real' computer, then either wait for the new system and spend your money there, or, buy the cheapest unit available and suffer a little with video, etc. - I don't know how I would manage without at least one computer, but if I was just buying my first one (or, first good one), I would wait until I could do it right and not throw money away on anything 'temporary'.

    Good luck.
