    Hi All,

I've a Lenovo P51 laptop I bought 4 months ago. It came with a 1tb M.2 SSD drive with a slot for another M.2 drive.

I want to add another 1tb or 2tb M.2 NVMe SSD to create a RAID 0 for speed.

Which make and model of 1tb or 2tb M.2 NVMe SSD will you recommend for me?

    Thanks Everyone

I bought the Samsung 860 Evo 2tb instead of the 960 Pro as it is half the price. Still working fine after 5 months. Happy with your laptop? I love mine.

I love mine as well. I've the exact same spec as yours 20hh001s++. Is your 860 Evo 2TB M.2 or 2.5"? Did you configure yours for RAID?

Don't you have to source the M.2 adapter for P51 if you want to add an M.2 that didn't come with the computer?

Very cool to hear! It's the M.2 drive. No, I use the 860 Evo 2TB M.2 for storage, along with a 2TB Crucial 2.5" SSD. The OS is on the stock 500GB M.2. You do video production or something like that, Chukwe?

Is the first drive true NVMe? the reason is then you want to stay away from a SATA drive to use for Raid0. Best bet is to use the same drive, capacity and all.

No, I'm a computer programmer, SharePoint developer to be precise. I use a lot of VMWare applications for my development. SharePoint requires a lot of RAM and CPU, that's why I bought the P51

    This is my spec http://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_P51?M=20HH001Sxx

    Says nvme.

To be sure, open crystaldiskinfo and show us (probably hide the serial number though).

Well good as it seems NVMe and they seem to be available too; https://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/acces...s_DSA&ef_id=Wk7S6QAAAFS1eg_5:20180221212049:s

Just remember that Raid0 caries CPU and other system resource overhead, it is not free. As an example though I have 2x EVO 960 512GB drives in my desktop. I use one for the OS and installed programs and the other for all user folder files. This divvies up access without any additional resource overhead.

NVMe drives run hot too. With Raid0 since both drives are busy, it may get hotter. The extra data size because of the stripe may increase actual read/write to both drives as well increasing heat generated.

To be honest, I don't have any need for RAID really. Just wanted to try it and see what it does.

Oh wow, I have no idea what that is but it sounds really impressive!!

I just run one VM sometimes, works okay. It would have been nice to have had Pascal graphics, oh well.
