Check the date code on the bottom and report back. It's on the same sticker that holds the serial number.

That's a very late machine, it should have native Penryn support and you should be OK with T8100/8300/9300/9500.

    Happy upgrading.

Thanks that what I figured as well,,it was a gift so now I have two notebooks this one and HP Pavilion 17 ,2013 model.

    I bought new T8100 , $10.50..T8300 ^ $20 , then T9300-T9500 price more than doubles.

    Cheers

Update,,I installed Intel T8100, its no go,,Thermal sensor error , it starts to boot then shuts off,,Middletons Bios was installed it does not work ,does not change anything except bios version and date-no new functionality added.. I looked up the Board on Lenovo Support site and it shows only one processor Intel T2370,,it actually came with an Intel T2390 and runs no problem,,The T2390 shows no support for this board on the Lenovo Site,,go figure..

I had a Lenovo G530(sold) it came with Merom T3400, I installed T6500-Penryn works like a charm, no problem, I guess they fixed either the newer meroms or the board issue. The Chipset is Intel Express 4.

    Cheers

You may want to downgrade the BIOS and re-flash it again.

I've done this type of upgrade on a myriad of ThinkPads, and have never encountered an issue.

Having said that, I always update from a bootable CD-ROM. The one time that I didn't I lived to regret it. YMMV.

    Good luck.

    What I did :

Extract Middletons Bios downloaded from mediafire with Igors 7zip utility

    Bios file

    WINUPTP.EXE file

Created a partiton on Sata 1 drive(spareone),Installed win 7SP1 32 bit on it and ran bios update from inside windows 7 32 bit Graphics utility Interface.

    R61 (15.4" widescreen): 8930, 8932, 8933, 8934, 8935, 8936, 8937
    R61i (15.4" widescreen with IEEE 1394): 8932-

    Middletons Bios--2.24-1.08---same number as lenovo.

    In Bios

    Network....

    ethernet lan enabled
    flash over lan enabled
    intel amt disabled(none I seen)

    Security

    security chip disabled
    bios update option enabled
    I/Odevices-ultrabay-enabled

Actually in the win 7sp1 Gui,,the HDD has error control thus not a bit will be out of place when sent to the flash utility to erase and write the updated bios code- block by block-17 of them as i recall-done lightening fast, if the cd rom skips,,your bios is toast you got a paperweight laptop,,lol.

Middleton made the right move,,he just copied lenovo bios update for this model to his download , he obviously has made the update-that fixes all the issues, yet he is not here anymore..до свидания-spoken das va-dawn-ya-meaning- Good Bye.

It is possible someone else will duplicate these Bios repairs to restore functionality listed or maybe not.
Either way this a backup laptop, So I'm not really concerned, Its works good-fully functional as made with improvements I installed, Win 7SP1 HOm Prem x64, more ram, bigger HD(had it laying around), ect.

    Cheers

Whatever you've done hasn't gotten you where you need to be and that's why I had suggested downgrading the BIOS and then re-flashing it again.

    Good luck.
