Not sure if this is the best place to post this.....

I just installed a new HDD with Windows 7 tonight. Everything was working great.

I unplugged the computer and took it over into the living room where it resides. Previously, my battery would run out of juice after about 5 minutes of being unplugged. Just to be certain that this was indeed a bad battery and not some weird Vista thing, I decided to leave it unplugged to see. Sure enough, 5 minutes later it shuts down.

I plugged it back in but now it will not power on. ???

    Any ideas? Help!!
    Thanks.

I tried that first! Did not work.

Also, the power adapter is an aftermarket, Kensington.

Edit: Removed it again, did not work. Turned it around to try and see if anything was loose.... turned it back around and the 'power' light was on....

    Weird...
Not sure if this is an isolated problem or not. Any ideas what the issue is and how to avoid it or fix it in the future?

Yes, an and don't move your machine around while it's powered. And get rid of the defective battery. It's won't come back to life.
Check the connections, you could have shook something loose in the transit. Otherwise, return it to it's previous working condition and work back from there.

My wife called me and said the computer is again not turning on today.

I closed the top on it last night and it was working fine... she opened it today and it was off and will not turn on.

I've messed with the obvious connections on the back. Nothing seems loose or abnormal.

    Any ideas???

First thought is a faulty power switch, connection, or something along those lines. In fact, it sounds strangely similar to the problem I'm currently having with my laptop. Only mine won't turn on at all. You need a diagnostic to tell for sure.

What kind of Lenovo? My T61 did something very similar to what you're describing; in that case it's a system board failure related to the bad G8x-series chips (used in the Quadro NVS 140M). Lenovo may actually repair the unit for free, even if you're out of warranty, if that's the case (since nVidia is paying for out-of-warranty repairs on defective G80s up to 3 years from purchase).
