Hi everyone, I was wondering if it would be possible to connect an external GPU trough the Express card adapter on my W540.

    I would use this device

    http://www.banggood.com/EXP-GDC-Laptop-External-PCI-E-Graphics-Card-p-934367.html

With an AMD Radeon r9 280x

+ external Monitor and power supply.

    My W540 specs

CPU: Intel Core i7-4900MQ CPU @ 2.80GHz up to 3.80GHz Haswell 22nm Technology

    RAM: 32.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz

    Motherboard: LENOVO 20BGCTO1WW (CPU Socket - U3E1)

    Storage: 476GB SAMSUNG MZ7TE512HMHP-000L1 (SSD)

    Thanks!

Not viable. Too many headaches. Most such setups tend to be problematic save for Alienware's Graphics Amplifier.

Thanks, but does the Alienware's Graphics Amplifier work with laptops that aren't alienware?

Willc87, no, Dell's GA won't do, it's proprietary. About eGPU on W540 - read here.

Alienware's Graphics Amplifier works only on Alienware's model which offers it.
