Just a general kind of question:
I noticed this on my Dell E1505: it was really really easy to just press in on the lid of the laptop and make it bend/flex in. However, this didn't seem to have any effect on the LCD screen itself (glossy) - not only no ripples, but no apparent bending. I didn't push in the lid as far as I could have because I didn't want to hurt it, though...
Anyway, I assume this is correct behavior, but I don't know for sure. Presumably this could help cushion the expensive LCD from impact if the notebook were to fall, but I could also be totally off the mark, and it could be an indicator of sub-par design or materials.![]()
Does YOUR laptop do this, and, if you're the knowledgable type, why or why not?

I ask because I recently returned it (Dell support issues, I was about to get screwed over), and wanted to get away from Dell, but there are no really good alternatives, so I'm probably going to end up back with what I started withso unless this lid thing is a negative, it seemed sturdy enough to me (as in, not enough of a reason to go with something more expensive). Hey, anybody dropped theirs yet?
tell me how it goes if you do!

i bet its okay. they wouldnt make them rigid cause there would be alot of broken screens. and the screen shouldnt be damamged by minor flexing as there is no really rigid parts in them that cant flex somewhat.

If you were to say drop it or hit against something, it will not offer as much protection as one with a magnesium lid like a ThinkPad or Latitude. For normal use it is fine.

Thanks for the info, both of you
Jamie, if what you say is true, then that makes sense! Maybe one day I'll find out, but for now, I'll just take that as the truth (and I decided to get Complete Care accidental damage coverage anyway, so I don't worry about it as much as I did)
zazonz, you're probably right, but I do seem to remember that the lid and the bottom of the laptop in question ARE made of magnesium alloy - are you saying magnesium alloy is supposed to be more rigid? I'll see if I can find more information. -
I don't think it is, but I could be wrong.
Lid flexing - beneficial, acceptable, or unsettling?
