any input are welcome.
thanks

Forever!!!!! bwahahah!!!

Notebook keyboards have a long long life. Touchpads have a comparatively shorter lifespan.
-
The keyboard on my Sony Vaio FX Series is 4.5 years old and still going. I would expect the keyboard to last for the life of the laptop.
The touchpad is still going strong too, though I'll admit I use an external mouse about 50% of the time. -

thats great to hear.
touchpad? which part of touchpad is more fragile than the keyboard?
edit: btw, i ask this because i'm very worried about replacing my keyboard and it can get very expensive.. that's why i consider getting external keyboard... so if the laptop keyboard is as durable as u all said it was, i will use my laptop keyboard primarily. -
They last forever, depending on your usage, which obviously goes for anything that we use in general. The more we use it, the more it goes through wear and tear.
I would say 4-5 years of good use, but after 6+ months, of daily usage, the keys will start to fade - all of which are just physical wear. -
Sometimes the buttons break/wear out..or the pad itself becomes worn. I wouldn't worry about using the keyboard on a regular basis--the worst that will probably happen is that it gets dirty/letters become faded. As long as you aren't popping/abusing the keys off you have nothing to worry about. Just use and enjoy your computer, don't stress.

the keyboard on my X21 almost felt better than the keyboard in my T60, and the X21 is at least 4 years old. The track point still worked great in the X. I like the T60 keyboard because it feels like I could run over it with my car and it wouldn't phase it.

I have a 7 year old IMB notebook that I still use to this day for SNES and NES roms.
The keyboard works perfectly. Not a single problem in any of those 7 years. -
The keyboard should work fine for a long, long time. But the letters on the key may wear off early (but they may not).

thanks
that convinces me. i'll be comfortably uses my laptop keyboard from now on!

I'm having a small issue with my Asus keyboard.
I don't know why, but since sunday some keys make a "clack" sound when I press them. This happens with 'A' and the keys surrounding it.
Anyone has any idea of why is this happening?
The notebook is brand new, just a couple of months old. -

Have you tried giving them a firm jab? My logitech laptop style usb keyboard occasionally does that.
I'd say a keyboard should last a very long time! My old portege's keyboard was still perfect apart from 4 years of use (a bit grubby) but all the lettering was still there (unlike the above logitech one which wore off WASDXZCNBYU and M within about six months), no keys missing or funny actions. Short nail help to keep your keyboard in better condition. -
Keyboards are designed to last for the entirety of your notebook's useful lifespan. Touchpads will begin to wear out starting on year two, and get progressively less responsive depending on usage.
You'd be surprised how firm jabs lead to solid nudges to strong punches to hammer fists when it comes to buggy computer hardware... -

Hehe, we should have a 'have you accidentally ever reset/damaged your pc when you hit it out of rage' poll.
I had a desktop a while back which i kicked so hard it reset itself!I would never hit a laptop though, I love my laptop too much!

A few weeks back I smacked a monitor when it was going screwy. Knocked some sense into it. I got another two weeks use out of it before I had to replace it. After awhile no matter how much I smacked it, it just wouldn't straighten out again.

I had a monitor like that, an old Sony Trinitron 15" CRT. It had no degause so you had to smack it to get rid of the shimmery line running down the left hand side!
-
Reminds me of my old CRT as well, after a while, the right side of the monitor had lost quite a bit of its textured finish -
-
Probably. Don't try it at home. lol

Yes, hard drives don't like sudden violent vibrations. I know from experience.
