    Line-in audio recording on a HP dv9700t

    hey everone. i tried plugging my friends guitar into the microphone jack on the front of my HP dv9700t laptop to do a direct line-in recording session using recording software Cool Edit Pro 2. upon recording the sound came out all muddy and watery sounding. i tried changing settings for 20 minutes to get it to sound clean but no success. anyone have any tips on what i could do to get a nice clean sound?

    ok is there any other option? what about something like the "ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi® Xtreme Audio Sound Card" that has an optical in jack on it. would that help provide a better sound?

    I assumed you made sure mic volume in Sound Properties was maxed? The best thing you could do is go to a guitar store that also deals with electronic music tell them what you are doing and the problems you are having. There are many inexpensive solutions to what I believe is a common problem w/ computers and in line recording. I can't tell you about "ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi® Xtreme Audio Sound Card" I don't know.
