So after watching LinusTechTips review of the 9900K and saw his ridicolous numbers showing that an 8core 14nm processor runs more efficient and cooler than a 6core 14nm processor, I dug in and looked at the scores and board, I noticed that his scores are off and the board he tested which is not sufficient.

I found hardware unboxed who would confirm my theories:

And figured that people should know before you people purchase a 9900K for your notebook and trip the VRM's until they melt away, that the CPU is an absolute powerhog and is a watercooking thermal vulcano.

I saw both this and his Patreon-only Vlog today. Clearly, LTT was power limit throttling to 95 watts. It wasn't clear if that was due to the choice of motherboard (inadequate VRMs) or something incompetent like failing to turn off CPU Current Limit in the BIOS. Overclocked the 9900K draws out a lot of energy, 40 watts more than the 8700K. If your VRMs are power cycling to stay at 95 watts, I have no doubt that the chip will stay cool.
