    Hi guys,

Although I am not new to PCs, I am new to notebooks. I jumped on a Best Buy deal, buying the Gateway MX3215. The only shortcoming is that it ships with 256MB of RAM.

I want to upgrade with a stick of 512MB but I am unsure of exactly what I am looking for. The laptop specifications are here: Gateway MX3215. No mention of DDR2 is made, but if you view the Best Buy add, it says this notebook uses DDR2 modules, found here: edit- link is dead

Can anybody tell me which RAM this laptop uses?

There are apparently two revisions according to some sources. One with PC2700 DDR and one with PC4200 DDR2.

Try punching in your serial number in Gateway's site and see what comes up.

I just ordered it so I have way of getting the serial number yet. It should arrive someday this week. I was really hoping to place an order for a stick of 512MB today, but I guess I have no choice but to wait :(

I got mine yesterday. Bought a stick of Kingston 1GB DDR2 PC4200 SODIMM and replaced the 256MB stick.

This is a great little laptop. I've seen a bunch of people say the fan is always on. Mine is rarely on. I wonder if it's due to the RAM upgrade?

I uninstalled 75% of the crap they had on here, patched it up, used a registry cleaner, and this thing is rockin'.

Perfect for what I need it for, browsing and DVDs on the plane.

Oh, and a full charge is giving me 3:45 of browsing time. That's with the screen dimmed (which is a BIOS option) and wireless ON.

Pretty darm impressive if you ask me.

Anyway, I really like this laptop. At $449.00 + $95 RAM upgrade, it's a smokin' deal

Ah so it is PC4200 and not PC4300? This spec sheet says PC4300 for some reason.

    Just a follow up...

I bought a 1GB stick of Corsair SODIMM (PC4200, DDR2) and all is running well. Thanks for the info.
