Any old gamer here from 1996? Remember the glory day of 3Dfx?

If you are an old gamer and if you had been a loyal customer of 3Dfx until the day they closed their door in 2000, you may remember one of the last video card they made for the professional market, the Quantum 3D Aalchemy.

    http://www.thedodgegarage.com/3dfx/q3d_aalchemy.htm

The card has 8 VSA-100 chips and you can have 2 running in SLI mode giving you 16 VSA-100 chips.

I have never seen this card listed for sale anywhere until a few days ago where I noticed that someone has sold his at eBay.

Notice that the height of the card is longer than the standard size bracket and if you notice the PCI connector, the length of the card is about twice as long as a normal card. I don't think it will fit with a standard PC case.

I asked the seller a question and he said that this card requires a special non standard power supply. This is a power hungry card and only intended to be installed in a Quantum 3D Aalchemy system. http://www.quantum3d.com/products/AAlchemy/aalchemy.html

Anyway, I just want to share my discovery.

No, this was manufactured in 2000 (one of the last 3Dfx product), before PCI Express ever invented. Quantum 3D Aalchemy was designed for professional military flight simulator and generally not available for general public. Although they may sell it to you if you have the cash.

Now, it would be interesting to play game made in 2000 with this system. With 16 chips run in SLI, I want to see the benchmark against commercial gaming cards made at the same as this card.

That's ok, want real big, how about 4 x R300/Radeon9700s on an Evans and Sutherland Simfusion card?

    First the AGP + PCI 2 PCB 6000 (6500 used R360s)

or else the huge single PCB 7000 series (up to 8 per system)

Man, thats unreal. I cant belive that they used to be that big. I wasnt gaming at the time because i was a little kid, so i dont remember. lol. Yeah, in another 10 years there will be a thread titles "GIGANTIC Graphics Card" and it will have pictures of the 8800 GTX. How it used to be the best and how it scored good on 3Dmark08, while we then will use 4DMark2019. lol
