I have an older Asus notebook with an IDE connection and I want to upgrade it to a 7200 rpm drive from the base 4200 rpm one. However, I've looked at newegg, mwave, and zipzoomfly and all their 7200 rpm laptop drives are SATA, not IDE. All the older IDE ones are out of stock. Can someone tell me where I can find preferably the newer drives in IDE flavors or the older drives still in stock?

even a larger 5400 rpm drive w/ decent cache can help performance

The Samsung HM160HC is faster than any 7200rpm drive.

    It will cost around $50.

You dont want a 7200rpm drive.
    You want a Samsung HM160HC.
It is the fastest drive for the IDE/PATA interface.
Its single high density 160gb platter outpaces all 7200rpm drives for the interface in raw read and write speeds, and in real life benchmarks like pcmark 05.

I bought my HM160HC from lagoom, they have it for around $65 shipped.

Here is my review of the drive and how it compares to other IDE/PATA drives:

I hope I solved your question, please leave any comments if you desire.
Philflow also has one of these drives, and I have recommended this drive to numerous forum members, and everyone has been happy with the drive.

EDIT: Wow everyone beats me to linking my own review :D
    thanks guys ;)

I had the Hitachi 7K100, and it was the fastest harddrive for the ATA interface until last year when the WD 2500BEVE drive was released. Than the Hm160HC was released and it became the fastest drive.
In my review, you can see how the performance of the Hm160HC trumps my 7K100. Both drives were installed in the same system, so the tests are very comparable.
