Hitachi has the TravelStar 7k60, was looking at it today myself. I believe that Toshiba has 7200 rpm also, but not sure of that.

I'd start at Pricegrabber.com. The 7200RPM drives are in short supply at the moment. The 40GB versions are $170 for the places that have them in stock and $190 for the 60GB version. You might be able to get it cheaper on ebay. Good Luck.

You can order a hitachi 7200 drive through dell for only $155. It just takes about 1-2 weeks to ship, but for me, very worth the wait for the price.

FIY, I read an announcement and review of the new Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 that is both faster (throughput and such) and larger than the 7K60. It spins at 7200rpm too and comes in both PATA and SATA. I bought the 7K60 back in March and am very happy with it but if I were shopping now I would definately be looking for the 7K100.

I think only Dell has them at the moment.

EmperorG is correct; in addition, the 7K100 has an industry leading 300G/1000G shock resistance rating, operating & non operating respectively.
I recieved two 7K100 drives from Dell last week, I will post a short user review + benchmarks after i clone my existing drives to the 7K100s today/tomorrow, and will compare it to my Momentus 100GB/5400RPM as the 7K60 has been benchmarked to death on the Web.

Hitachi Travelstar makes 7200 RPM drives that are fairly reliable and lower power than most other laptop IDE drives, however 7200 RPM drive inherently eat more power than 5400RPM drives.

I have two new, sealed Hitachi 7K60 drives for sale at $165 each + ACTUAL (low) shipping for sale, viewable in the For sale section of this board...

    sounds like a good deal-

    Do you have Heatware?

I'm very wary of trading online with folks that don't accept paypal or have Heat-

I think this forum should recommend it's traders using heatware- nobody wants a bad rep-

    Here's my heat -

    and Heatware's website-

itshondo - no hatware or electronic payments, but if you click the "other hard drive buyers" link in my "for sale" post in the For Sale section of this board, you can check out the other folks who bought from me & were very happy.
