Typically the manufacturer of each SSD has their own version of a Secure Erase. This won't reset the usage counter (i.e. if life left is 90, SE won't reset that), but it does set the data on the drive to effectively new (as in blank). I don't know that there is one program that will do this on all brands, best off looking on the manufacturer's site for your drive(s).

Like I was trying to say (not very clearly I admit), the tools only work on that manufacturer's drives. Samsung tools won't work on Intel or OCZ SSD, and so on.

Even the method Namaiki linked only works on certain drives (Indilinx and Sandforce controllers). What drive are you trying to Secure Erase?

Toyo's link might be good, it appears to be a secure erase method through Windows versus a manufacturer tool.

No matter what, don't secure erase too much, it does take away from the limited program/erase cycles of an SSD. Once a year should be fine though I would think, perhaps even twice.

Interesting, you did have a Samsung drive and yet Sammy's tool failed to pick it up right...kindof like how Western Digital says I don't have any of their drives installed on my work PC and yet there are 2 Velociraptors...apparently it fails through RAID...were you running a RAID by chance? Might have explained that.
