I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-28, and decided to replace the CDROM with a DVD drive. After reading the tutorial and getting the CDROM out, I thought that I could replace it with anything. However, after finding a good deal on a LG GSA-T20N pulled from an MSI laptop, I noticed that the drive doesn't actually fit due to the large bezel/faceplate. Maybe the tutorial should specify that while everything else should fit, you should be very careful with the faceplate when choosing a new drive.

You can see my faceplate in the attached picture. It's actually too thick so the laptop cover barely closes, and due to its height it doesn't fit completely in the caddy.

The CDROM drive was a Teac which has a different faceplate, so I can't use it.

What I need is a slim faceplate, something like this, whatever fits the drive. Any matching plate should have the button and the tiny hole (red arrows) and the hooks (yellow arrows) in the same place.

I tried asking some local laptop repair shops, but they couldn't help me. I tried ebay but it's difficult choosing the search terms. For example, lg faceplate laptop or lg bezel laptop doesn't yield anything.

I also can't afford paying too much for it. I'm already disappointed that I have to pay more for a new faceplate, considering that I could have bought a better drive with more money.

From what I noticed, LG drives are pretty common on laptops, and their front side seems to be the same regardless of model. So what I need is a slim faceplate that fits on any LG optical drive. At the moment I'm not sure where I should be looking, or even if anyone would be willing to ship one to Europe (Romania) for $2 or $3. Any suggestions?

Might want to post this in the Toughbook part of the forum of the WTB section in the marketplace...or have it moved by a moderator.

Well, it's not exactly a Toughbook topic, it's a more general one. It's related more to LG optical drives. I'm also looking a bit for guidance, whether I will be able to find what I'm looking for in my terms. And I also assumed more people would read this here than in the marketplace. :D
