Browsing around the web, it seems that the bigger a Sandforce drive gets, the more you pay in terms of cost per GB. For instance, Newegg charges $240 for a 120 GB Vertex 2 ($2 per GB), $400 for a 180 GB Vertex 2 ($2.22 per GB), and $520 for a 240 GB Vertex 2 ($2.16 per GB).
Unfortunately, 120 GB isn't enough for me and my laptop only has 1 drive bay, so I was wondering if somebody could recommend an SSD with a Sandforce controller that doesn't have the "capacity tax"?

If you aren't pressed for time wait for a deal. I've seen vertex 2's for 10%+ off.

Sometimes people use a smaller SSD for the system/program files and then move the 2.5" hard disk to a CD caddy that replaces the laptop CD/DVD. I don't know about you but I haven't used my DVD-RW in over a year so I'm replacing it with a drive caddy.
There is a thread on this forum all about this topic, how-to and where to buy.
This is a more economical approach that keeps the system fast but allows for large media storage as well. Usually using media files isn't something that gains by SSD since you watch/listen at a low data rate anyway.
Looking for a Sandforce SSD...
