Now the internal screen is limited to 60Hz... I don't know what pannel the GS70 uses, however because it is an Optimus notebook, you cannot OC the pannel as display output runs through the Intel iGPU which doesn't allow this
Now your external Acer screen is a 2560X1440 144Hz monitor... The GS70 can drive that monitor at 2560X1440 @ 144Hz... The problem is that the fps you'll have at the resolution will be so low and you'll have to turn down the details to get any resonable fps... Having a 144Hz monitor and running at 30fps is pointless... You want to be getting as close to 140fps++ and decent details to fully enjoy the external monitor... GS70 can't do this.. Something like a P370SM-A can.. So can the P570WM3 with 980M SLI or the Alienware 18.. -
So go back to post 1. and you will realize..
And you will then realize WHY Kantana came over here .. bcos he has (or had originally) same screen in his NP9377 ...
I SAID b4 that I WOULDDNN'T use such high resolutiooon OOK ???
I would use MAX, FHD 1080p and try max Hz possible on that external acer monitor..
But it is fine .. I pretty sure new display port and new type HDMI in new GS70 might support higher Hz as laptop model is from november 2014..
If it doesn't support it, is fine am not bothered much..
It just need doing , NOT blabbing , like no no it woon't wooork etc ..
YOU would NEVER believe that kantana would successfully swap screen and get all working on 100% on his laptop..!Last edited: Apr 6, 2015 -
What *WE* are saying is that you have a 1440p external screen, and a 1080p external screen would be better.
If you want to run games at 1080p on your 1440p screen, you are wasting your screen.
I also said, if you ever get a screen that does *NOT* support 120Hz or 144Hz out-of-the-box, you CANNOT overclock that screen on your notebook. *I* can. *YOU* cannot.TomJGX likes this. -
I HIGHLY DOUBT that you or anybody else runs games smoothly on (or actually using) 2k resol. by using decent laptop .. I say AGAIN USING LAPTOP OK ...
Most of you using 1080p ..
So it is NOT any waste it IS STILL there that 2k resol. it wont go away from that monitor right ? Can use it in future
So don't understand why waste ... but that is your state..
Damn so many ppl here so negative jeeezuss ..
like ''*I* can you *cannot* WTH ? Sooo smug ... -

I have a notebook with a screen as xmg c703 17.3 '' fullhd with a medium quality, I would like to replace it with a better screen, maybe ips, what type of screen I can fit on my notebook?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Yours is likely a Chi Mei N173HGE-L11, if so; anything from this list. Make sure to read the entire post, since you don't want to end up receiving the exact same panel you have now.
Best from that lot is not an IPS though, it's the AUO B173HW01 V4. These are quire rare (most offers are for ' compatible'), but there's one listing for $58 used. One potential issue; you'll not want to part with the laptop anymore after you've swapped in that panel, even when it'll be years overdue otherwise ... -
i use that screen in my previous notebook hp dv7 and i remember it was very better, now after 2 year the same panel is the best tn for my c703?
have the same connector ?

Yes, funny eh? The Aorus X7 Pro (July 2014) uses the matte version of this screen and the production run of the series started in July 2009. Panel manufacturing lines have a rather long lifespan, much longer than the laptops/devices they're used in.
-
ok, i'm in trouble to decide if i buy another auo v4 instead of my actual chi mei, it's really better? (i think yes but i don't want to waste more money)
8ms of auo v4 it's more high than the actual response time
help me -
Depends on what the main use of the laptop is. That Chi Mei is actually pretty decent and it's a matte, so more useful outdoors or in a bright room. The AUO has full sRGB spectrum, which is great for movies & games (and dtp work). Yet, being a glossy, can be an annoyance when used outdoors.

Could anyone help me find a seller of LP173WF4-SPF1 in the UK? Any help appreciated.
-
Hi! I was thinking to try to fit a LP173WF4-SPF1 new IPS screen into an Alienware 17 R1 that currently is using a TN 120Hz panel, named LTN173HT02-D02.
The problem is that the cable I'm using is an eDP to 40pin.. and I think the LP173WF4-SPF1 has a 30 pin connector.
Somebody know if there's some kind of adapter 40pin to 30pin adapter? or I'll have to buy an eDP to 30pin cable?Last edited: Dec 1, 2015 -

mmmm so no IPS panel for my laptop.. I hate the idea that I have to change the whole notebook to have a better quality screen panel...
Thanks for your feedback! -

First purpose : The crappy angles I see X-ray + very dark sections mainly in corners of the screen
Second purpose : Brightness is low
Third purpose : When I am scrolling pages when I am reading text the letters gets blurry because it drags text through the screen and leaving kind of red-ich color in some occasions.. Really hurts my eyes !!
Fourth purpose : color accuracy is very bad ! Sometimes you cannot see the lines from the pages because are washed out by not accurate either gamma correction or contrast calibration.
I have IPS screen on the acer and the fidelity of the looking at it is very HIGH and no I do not have any yellow tint.. And I have compared it with current laptop with TN screen and obviously IPS wins that is why they been invented and manufactured in the world
Now OLED arrived (on TV's only)Nomad likes this. -

Any QHD or 4K display mods on any laptops?
-
Yes: P377sma 4K display Upgrade
It worked because this pre-4K era model featured a 4-lane eDP connector due to its 1080p 3D panel option. Normally a 2-lane suffices for 1080p. Of course, if 4K was an optional upgrade from the start then all it needs is the display and accompanying 4-lane cable. -
-
Not that I'm aware of, but the same rules apply; if the laptop has 4-lane eDP then it can run 4k. One issue might be a somewhat dimmer screen; the 4k has a denser pixel arrangement so is less 'transparent' and hence requires more backlight power.
With an LVDS system 4k is not possible as these require too many pins and afaik no laptop featured dual 40-pin or dual 50-pin connectors, though a few desktop monitors do. -

Hi guys,
I want to buy the Clevo P775 (i7-7700k , 1060 with 6GB) and have the following display options :
1. FHD 1920x1080; 75Hz; Matte; IPS; 300nts; 700:1; 72% NTSC; eDP 30pin; LP173WF4 SPD1
2. QHD 2560x1440; 120Hz; Matte; TN; 5ms; 700:1; 400nts; NTSC 72%; eDP; AUO B173QTN01.0
3. 4K UltraHD 3840x2160; 60Hz; Matte; IPS; eDP; 1000:1; Adobe RBG 100%; 400nts; AUO B173ZAN01.0
Price :
1. standard
2. + 259 $
3. + 444 $
I am interested in the best screen for the eyes (the one that hurts less on long exposure and hast best sharpness and colors/contrast...) since I would use it mostly as a workstation (virtual machines, office work maybe some CAD...) and occasionally gaming.
What would be your recommendation as best for what :
A) I am looking ?
B) you are looking ?
If it is possible please detail your response.
Thank you ! -

The best screen for the eyes is hard to quantify; your eyes may or may not match what my eyes are sensitive to.
Buy the most expensive if you're planning to keep the notebook for 18 months or longer - and if you have an issue with it; return it.
Workstation use (8 hours + per day...) would be most pleasant for me on the highest resolution panel you list above... even if I won't use it at 100% scaling. -
For me it'd be the 1440p option; high(est possible) refresh rate with TNs and think its dpi at 17.3" is pretty much optimal for CAD and still workable for games without having to downscale. The ZAN will obviously have better colours and contrast though, so for movies and DTP it'd be preferable.
That being said, I'd never pay such outrageous upgrade prices, simply for the principle of it. You have to remember you'd also deduct the price of the original screen and cable, so you're looking at ~$350 and ~$550 for something which will cost ~$150 aftermarket*.
Of course, that does mean diy-ing (sourcing lcd and cable) and waiting a few months if you want the 120Hz (the ZAN can be done right now). Mind that there are two display lid versions; the 4k/ZAN's lacks side-brackets and perhaps differs in some other, trivial parts as well. A little trimming here and there shouldn't be too hard to make either swap work, but the non-4k lid should have less flex, so ... another reason to opt for the stock screen. Or indeed the 120Hz, if you don't mind being very generous to the reseller or if it's actually worth the surcharge to you. -

Only outrageous if you're planning to upgrade too soon (less than ~18 months, for me...).
Of course you'll pay a premium to be 'first' and 'factory stock'; but I'd rather have the luxury of a warranty and no hassle than saving even $500 over the next couple of years or longer...
Time - Money. Trade as you see fit. But one is more valuable than the other at any given moment.

Yeah, admittedly it's all pretty subjective.
Could spare the money, but tinkering and not-over-stuffing-corporations'-pockets are both hobbies of mine. These do not always go well together, spending more on tools and parts in order to get something running than the savings earned. To me, personally, it'd still be time well spent and there'll be more tools at the end of the project.
Of course, for someone else that time might preferably be spent elsewhere. There's tons and tons of fun and interesting things to do, just a shame there's so little time to do them all.

Anyone remember the correct dip switch sequence on a sony vaio vgn-aw41mf 18.4" when replacing from a single CCFL into a LED conversion? There was a picture uploaded long time before but unfortunately it was deleted. Hope someone knows that and contribute to install my full led hd monitor LTN184HT02-s01. Thanks
