Might be getting a new laptop soon and I’m just wondering what RAM is really best for gaming? If any.
Getting 16GB’s ( 2 x 8GB’s) which should be more than enough but I haven’t really kept up with all the new types of RAM or if there’s anything I should look for.
I’ve looked at Corsair vengeance, Gskill Ripjaws and Kingston Hyper X all DDR4 2400 but I’m still not sure what to get or if even one is better than the other.Price is fairly close for each so I’m not looking for the cheapest just best performing if possible.
Should I look for faster RAM? even though I doubt it will improve gaming that much.
I realize it might not make any difference as to which make or brand I choose but admittedly I haven’t bought RAM in a long time so any input would be greatly appreciated.

What games do you plan on playing? If you like to play quite intensive games while running programmes in the background then you may benefit from 16GB, but if not then 8GB will be enough. I wouldn't recommend buying RAM at the moment though since the prices are stupidly high. If its not too expensive to do it, i'd suggest just configuring 16GB when you buy your laptop.

Mix of new and old with nothing else running in the background when gaming, thing is most newer games are starting to recommend 16GB’s of RAM.
Unfortunately upgrading the RAM is not a option unless I get things I don’t want like a 4K screen :(
The laptop is the Lenovo 720s 15’’ with GTX 1050ti max q, it comes with 8Gb’s of ram and I’m getting a very, very good discount from work so that’s a huge plus.
I already have a 17’’ gaming laptop with GTX 1070 that stays at home but want something a bit more portable for work and gaming, I’m perfectly fine gaming at 720p and lowering settings but was wondering if more/faster Ram will help at all.
I realize I’m not going to gain any FPS ( maybe a couple more here and there ) but I’m thinking it would help with a smoother gaming experience and help increasing the minimum FPS and not get jarring drops.

What you could do is buy the laptop and see how you do with 8GB. If its good enough, then wait for the RAM prices to come down (hopefully next year) and buy 16GB. At the moment its 160 quid to get 16GB of RAM from Crucial in the UK which is ludicrous. If its cheaper in your country and you are willing to pay the price then go for it and get an upgrade. The brand doesn't matter all that much as long as they are reputable - Gskill, Corsair, Kingston, Crucial et cetera are all good and will perform identically more or less. Shop around and see which one is cheapest where you are.

There is also the possibility RAM prices will not come down at all, as the demand for it will not decrease. Most of the increase in price in the last year is because smartphones are using DDR4 modules. A complete waste in my opinion, but because they sell so many demand will stay high. In that case, you might as well just buy some now.

Yea it’s not really cheap here either in the US but I figure the money I saved with my discount I can add a bit more Ram and storage.

You're probably better off buying a laptop with the 16 GB already installed. Make sure that it comes with 2 x 8 GB sticks vs. a single 16.

I just ordered a 7577, with 16 GB (2 x 8 sticks), myself after looking at the market prices for memory. I had been hoping to get the laptop with the basic 8 GB, and then upgrade it to 32, but not right now with the prices as they are. Even upgrading to 16 GB is pretty expensive right now.

Outside of an Alienware perhaps, the memory on a laptop generally isn't very tweakable, if at all, in the BIOS like desktops are.

The Dells appear to be coming with Samsung DDR's.

I recently tried running the game Star Citizen, with just 8 GB of memory, and the game crashed before it fully loaded. I have another laptop with 12 GB, and it barely runs with that.
