I currently have a Dell Precision M6300 with Win XPx64 installed on the HDD. The MB has a Mini PCI-e slot for a "Flash Cache Module" that is currently unused. I was wondering if I could install a 64GB SSD there and partition it so I had 50 GB to install Windows 7 64-bit and the remaining space available for Readyboost (or whatever it's called).

Most SSDs that fit into that slot are horribly slow, so be aware of that.
-
What are the transfer rates for the FCM slot?
-
The slot has more bandwidth than necessary for the fastest SSDs but interest in the actual SSDs for that slot have no really picked up, so they are slower than most HDDs.

I was under the impression that there were SSD's that ran used SATA interfaces (although I believe with my current OS they are actually using an IDE interface).
Is there any way to check my transfer speed to my current HDD so I have a comparison for the SSD speed? -
Use CrystalDiskMark, HDTune, HDTach or ATTO.

Use HD Tune or ATTO. google to download
