    Hi guys!
I'm wondering what's the newest cpu supported on this laptop. According to chipset i should be able to install a quad core but I'm not sure if bios will run it.
    Anyhow
    Current spec:
    Intel Core 2 Duo T6600
    Memory 4GB
Chipset nforce 730i (SIW says modified, probably a mobile version)
    Gefore GT120M

    Bios:
No idea what determines cpu compatibility, tell me what to look for.

    Upgrade I was looking at:
Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile P8600 2.4GHz SLGFD Socket P Laptop CPU | eBay

Reason for upgrade is to make planetside 2 somewhat runable atm 15 fps max cpu bound

That upgrade would not help you very much at all.

Is there a way to check if my bios is compatible with a core2 quad processor? those seem to actually be 3 times better, and wikipedia tells me they exist with socket p

I just looked at the specifications of your video card. How do you know your processor is limiting your performance and not your video card?

the in game fps counter is telling me in planetside 2. gpu limitations kick in at 30+fps which rarelly happen as the game is crowded and big battles basicly go at 5 fps

your CPU upgrade would do little even a Core 2 Quad since that presupposes Planetside 2 is even multithreaded properly, it might boost the minimum framerates very slightly but you are mostly GPU limited at this stage. CPU bottleneck relief is only relevant if you have excess GPU power and your CPU is not feeding the Graphics array fast enough with Physics data. Your GPU has roughly the rendering power of the Intel HD4000 (notwithstanding vRAM bottlenecks) which definitely bottlenecks the CPU in all but the least demanding games.

As others said, it's your GPU that's limiting your performance, not your CPU, GT120M was pretty much a low end card, even at the time of its release. Upgrading to a higher CPU won't help your FPS at all.

And I don't think your video card is upgradable, only some alienware/sager/clevo/msi notebooks allow you to upgrade. Your best bet is to save up for a new computer.
