The comma key is loose on my XPS M1530. If I push on the top of the key, the bottom goes up and if I press the bottom of the key the top comes up. I have to firmly press the center of the key for the button to register. What can I do to fix this problem?

If the plastic on the key ain't broke yet, should be able to click it back in place. That's assuming you accidentally pried open the key.

How do I do that? How do I know if it's broken?

Another option is to buy a replacement keyboard off e-bay for $10 + shipping.

    reset the clip.

take the clip off the keyboard and snap it onto the bottom of the key. then snap the key and clip back on the keyboard.

Could you explain that in a little more detail, Noterev?

What Noterev said. I actually tested it out just now~
The key should be removable up to the extent that it's still joined at the top. Then just push it down in place. There'll be a snap sound and the key would be in place.

Hirohata, the key is still attached at the top, but when I push the key down it doesn't snap into place.

It should snap right back into place. Either that, or it's already broke somehow. Keep trying, or else get a replacement keyboard.

Do you mean at the top of the key or at the top of the plastic loop that holds the key cap to the keyboard? Because on my keyboard the plastic loop is attached at the top of the slot that it belongs on the keyboard. The other end is attached to the middle of the key cap. The top of the key cap is not attached to anything.

Also how can I pry another key loose to see what it should look like?

This is what it should look like/be able to do.

Pry another key from below. There should be a snapping sound.

take the key off the keyboard. this will expose the clip underneath. note the orientation and remove the clip from the keyboard. snap the clip under the key. then snap the unit (key and clip) back on the keyboard.

Thanks to you both. I think that a plastic part of the clip broke and is causing it not to stay in place quite properly. I followed your steps, Noterev, to get the clip back in place. The key is a little crooked, but is working just fine now.

As you can see, I can finally type with my beloved comma!
