I find it interesting that after CES, it is clear that intel hasn't pushed forward the usage of culv in low-level ultra-portables laptops < $600 price point. ( And indeed, those using culv don't seem to be using an updated generation)
The Acer 1410 style ultra-portables of last generation are sort of a "jack of all trades" laptop. The price was right (near $400, with sales at $350 and currently rests at $450), and due to small bevel but large screen, it has the size and weight of a netbook, it has better battery life than ION, the ability to play 720p video with less hitches than N270 / N450.
We know that ION2 is coming, and perhaps it will supply better battery life, but I find it interesting that there has been no announcement from intel about a successor to CULV. I think we all expected arrandale to be that processor, but it seems like it has a higher price point and TDP. From the fact that there weren't many announcements at CES, my impression is that intel and partners decided to avoid low-end CULV in favor of N450. I would wager that CULV was lobotomizing the profits of both netbooks and lower end portables.
What are your thoughts?

I didn't expect Arrandale to replace C2D CULV.
The current cheap low power Monty based CPUs will be around for most of this year...and there's talk we'll even see a couple of new ones introduced.

As for ION2 it'll be an improvement in performance over ION but won't produce better battery life since it's going to be a new type of discrete GPU instead of a chipset. -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
The successor to Core 2 Duo culv's was announced, it is the Core i5-520UM and Core i7-620UM/640UM. The Core i5/i7's have an 18W TDP but they will not completely replace current ulv Core 2 Duo's. The Arrandales will be the higher end of the culv's while the C2D SU2300/4100/7300 will become the lower end. And as Phinangle said, they will live together since even more ulv Core 2 Duo's are being announced later this year.
Low-End CULV discontinued?
