I did several back to back tests to see whether running html5 in youtube would produce lower power consumption in my computer compared to flash. When allowing the computer to run at variable clock speed, they both run at 996mhz.

With html5 the voltage is .80V, with flash it's .82-.83V. However, battery bar shows around 0.3-0.5W lower overall consumption with flash even though the voltage is higher. How's this possible?

Just because the CPU is supplied 3% less voltage for HTML5 does not mean that it is the only component that is different between the two. May be HTML5 is more memory intensive? It could be any component including your fan that could produce a 0.3W difference. That is really minimal.

Have you repeated the same tests multiple times just to make sure you aren't just within the error margin of whatever you're using to measure power consumption?

I realize it's a small difference. I did test several times with the same results every time.

How does memory and GPU usage compare? What is CPU usage like?

Also it seems strange that at the same CPU frequency, the CPU would be at different voltages. When it is idling at 996Mhz, what is the voltage?
