I was looking at buying a Plextor M3P for my Thinkpad X220 when I upgraded to Windows 8. It seems I have waited too long and now they are expensive and hard to find since the M5P has replaced it.
So what other good low power SSD's are there? I heard the Samsung 830 is apparently pretty good, but still not as good as the M3P. Any other suggestions?
btw, no SandForce, all my data is incompressible due to encryption.
EDIT: crap, forgot there was an SSD section. Sorry!

Moved it to SSD forum for you.
Actually the Samsung 830 has pretty high power draw under load. You need to look into various SSD reviews really, the M4 isn't bad in terms of power consumption.

m4 still consumes quite a bit more power idle than the M3P... Nearly double at idle and random writes.
Would I see a significant impact in battery life though? Since the actual difference in watts is small. -

Compared to the Samsung 830, the M4 is a better choice if you're actually pushing/using your storage subsystem (instead of just leaving it at idle...).
I know this link is to an Apple forum, but it may help too:

Although just a few watts differnce, it can make a noticeable showing depending on how you use your notebook. -
Corsair Performance Pro? It uses the same Marvell controller as the M3P and the M4.

I'd wait for the Plextor M5 Pro. It should start showing up at etailers soon and will be priced very well for a top performing SSD ($125 for 128GB/$230 for 256GB).

Well, now you have numbers for 128GB and 256GB drives, the difference in power usage between the 128GB reported by hardware.fr and the 256GB reported by anandtech is surprising. I guess i'll have to look for at least a third set of data points. EDIT: I'm having difficulties finding power usage data aside from anand and hardware.fr.
