I'm looking to upgrade my laptops SSD hard drive. My laptop has two HD, an SSD partitioned to a C: and E: (recovery) and D: a 7200rpm 1tb storage drive. The SSD is a Samsung 128gb M.2 2280 SATA III link

I think all I need to do is look for a SATA III, M.2 2280 with a larger capacity. Things to avoid would be anything PCI, NVMe or a different physical size.

If the above is correct, I do have one more question. I read that some SSD drives are not bootable, and some cannot be partitioned. As my current drive is my boot and partitioned I want to make sure that the replacement can do both of these.

Once I have my new SSD drive, all I need to do it attach a USB->SATAIII cable and find software that will make an exact copy of my current drive (can you recommend a software?) and then swap the drive?
