    Hiya

    Just bought a M6500 ( i5 m650 2.67Ghz) Its got 2x2Gb Ram installed, can i swap that to

    Crucial 8Gb (2 x 4 Gb DDR3L-1600 )

    specs DDR3 PC3 -12800 CL=11 Unbuffered NON-ECC DDR3-1600 1.35v

I know that this laptop only supports 8GB Max but has 4 slots 2 at the back (by removing battery) and 2 at the front by removing Keyboard.

Do i use the back slots (after removing battery, slots A B)

Is the m6500 ram upgrade procedure the same as the m6600, as its difficult to get any video, photo details of m6500 ram install

    thanks

Besides the two slots at the bottom (A, B), there are two under the keyboard as well (C, D). Of course that means you have to remove the keyboard first, shouldn't be too hard though.

And yes both A and B have to be populated before C, D can be used. Dual core supports 8GB (2 x 4GB) at most, while quad core supports up to 32GB (4 x 8GB).

Nehalem / Westmere can only take low-density 4GB RAM modules so make sure those 4GB modules have 16 chips (8 on each side), 4GB modules with 8 chips (4 on each side) won't work.

Since the Ram is a mixture of different brands (Crucial & Samsung) and different frequencies, is it worth me to replace all 4 with 2x4GB in just slots A and B with these in the below link, for better performance

So you do have 8GB RAM in total... well if it's rock solid now then I'd say keep it as is, I mean, "Why fix it if it ain't broke?" Changing from 4 x 2GB to 2 x 4GB offers little improvement... maybe slightly less latency and better OC capability, but that's it.

Buying slightly faster RAM modules but keeping the total RAM capacity the same is not recommended (by me). But depending on your workflows; it may be a measurable difference (w/regards to latency/'snappiness').

    See:

Buying 4x 4GB RAM modules though is recommended; and seems to be supported by your system too.

What is your workflow and primary uses of this system?
