I just bought two Kingmax memory modules (KINGMAX 1GB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 333 (PC 2700) Notebook Memory - OEM) for my Dell Inspiron 8600. I got them, replaced my two 512s, and when I turn on my computer it gives me the error message of

"Read/Write error, expecting (some number) received (some other number)" then on the next line it says "reducing available memory" and then "system memory has changed."

In the bios it then says I have 240MB of memory, but when I get it to boot up windows (is REALLY slow) and check my system profile, it says I have 2 GB of memory. It's usually at around this point when windows goes to blue screen and crashes. Putting back in my 512s fixes everything.

Any suggestsions are very welcome...are there some settings somewhere I have to tweak?! I'm hoping there's a solution because I really don't want to have to return.

    Hello and welcome.

Have you tried upgrading the bios? The latest version of bios for 8600 is A14.

Possible its bad RAM. I am not sure about KingMAX. The popular brand name memory are Kingston and Crucial for laptop memory.
