    Hi again,

I am considering upgrading my laptop processor not minding about the warranty.

I do not know what processor to upgrade to or what socket my laptop uses.
My laptop was bought in Jan this year.

You have an aspire 5100 series which means that the processor socket is S1.

You can upgrade your single core turion MK-36 to any socket S1 dual core turion X2 currently on the market. Just make sure you have the latest BIOS.

Possible processors are TL-50(1.6ghz), TL-52(1.6Ghz), TL-56(1.8Ghz), TL-60(2.0Ghz) or if you choose you can even use the new Athlon TK-53(1.7Ghz). As long as the processor socket is S1 then you are fine. :)

You can use CPU-Z to see specifics about your processor.

You can also upgrade to the new 65nm Turions that go up to 2.3GHz and run cooler.

It's a direct drop in, so all other components will work fine.

The TL-50 is 1 of the turion X2 processors that you could use. So yes it will fit into your current socket as the TL-50 uses that same socket S1 as your current MK-36. :)

You can get the latest BIOS for the 5100 series (version 3.50) from the acer euro FTP located here. Version 3.05 is the latest for both XP and Vista and it doesn't matter which OS you use the latest BIOS version will work with both :) .

As always be careful when flashing a BIOS...
