I Just put my first laptop together a ms-1722 with a p9600, wd 7200rpm 320gb, 4gb dual channelKingston HyperX. I am having several problems. When I go to look at the cpu temps in speedfan it shows that both cores are -26c? I know this can't be right so I got everest ultimate and it shows the cpu at around 42c but, still shows both cores at -26c? Also it shows slightly less than 2gb of ram, Is there something I need to do to set up the dual channel? Haven't updated the bios yet, what would be the best way without a floppy CD or usb Flash?
Any help would be appreciated.

welcome to notebookreview,
speedfan does not work with laptops.
Download coretemp

It is strange that less than 2Gb of memory is shown.
Have you verified this with cpu-z?
With CPU-Z, you can read the realtime memory amount in the memory and SPD tabs.
If you have a 32 bit operating system you will be limited to around 3.5Gb of memory.
However since yours is showing less than 2Gb, maybe one of your memory cards is dead, so its only reading one of them
Your bios should not have to be updated in order to read 4Gb. Most laptops can read 4 or even up to 8gb without a problem.

Ok, I downloaded that utility and it shows tj. max 105c but both core temps are still running -21c? On a plus side, I ended up switching the memory and now it shows 3GB, is that pretty normal or should I try and get the other 500megs to work?
-
cpu-z shows 4096mb 5-5-5-18 but for some reason it's only showing 399mhz instead of 800?
-
399Mhz is correct. PC6400 (800MHz) is Double data Rate memory, as in DDR. This means that the actual memory speed is 400MHz
3Gb is probably what your sysem reads. Most 32 bit operating systems read between 3.0 and 3.6Gb. If you have a powerful gpu, or dedicated parts which need extra allocated memory, than the amount seen will be less.
3Gb is fine, but if you want to see all 4Gb, get a 64 bit operating system.
I am not sure why the temperatures are wrong. Are you using an Engineering Sample (ES) processor? cause they dont read cpu temps
Other than that try hwmonitor, or everest for cpu temps
K-TRON -
Yes I am using an ES, That explains allot. Thanks for the help. For future reference Is there another kind of engineering sample that does read cpu temps for testing and things?
-
I dont think any ES chips have temperature monitoring abilities.
However I would say you best keep an eye out on your temperatures. If you feel really hot air coming out of the vents, you may want to ease down on the gaming or whatever.
Or if its running really hot, get a laptop cooler. That is the best thing you can do, short of buying a retail processor.

I have a question?? m14socom? Where did you find your p9600? And cost if you don't mind... I have been looking to build the same and am in the process in parts finding. Most likely from e-bay!
Thanks in advance!! -
An idea if your laptop is running Hot.. Sam's club has a laptop cooler for really cheap....
-
Yea I got the processor off of ebay for 235 or so. I guess I just need to undervolt it just to be safe.

Thanks I appreciate it!
