I'm not sure this is even the appropriate website to ask this kind of question.

    MSI GT72vr Dominator Pro-015

    • MOBO - MSI MS-1785
      CPU - i7-6700HQ
      GPU - GTX 1070 8GB
      RAM - 16GB 2400hz SODIMM
      SSD - Toshiba HG6 128GB
      HDD - HGST 7K1000 1TB 7200 rpm

I'm getting some banding (I believe that's what it's called). I've tried creating a custom resolution at 60hz and 8 bpc is the only color depth in the NVIDIA Control Panel. I don't know what any of this means, but it seems this is a fairly common problem with the GT72. I was hoping someone here knew of a workaround other than stealing my desktop build's VG248qe (this is my first laptop).

I think this is done automatically by steam? What you show in your picture, at least.

Or that is to say, your picture looks normal to me. If your picture is not normal, you need to take an external photo. Colour banding won't show up in internal shots.

Ok. Checking that test page, my screen (old sharp TV; internal screen is dead) is not very good. I also get lines near the black part, but not on the white, on the test you linked. However, looking at your picture of steam, mine is not nearly so bad.

What screen do you have specifically? I would consider it probably grounds for a return if it's a known problem. Haven't heard anybody report something like that on GT73VR

It's just the GT72vr screen. It's not hooked up to an external display. Lots of stories about people who sent it in and it came back with the same problem, and it's really only an annoyance. At home I can just hook it up to my VG248qe, but I'd like to not have this problem when I travel.

    I've heard the GT73vr doesn't have this problem, but I have a GT72vr.

You misunderstand. What is the panel your GT72VR has? My P370SM3 has a LP173WF2-TPB1. My upcoming P870DM3 will have a B173HAN01.2. What is in your GT72?

Not sure how to figure that how, but I sifted through Device Manager and came up with MONITOR\LGD046E.

Good enough. It seems like the problem is the screen itself. Can you return your GT72VR?
