    Hi Guys

I got my self an MSI G Series GT70 2OC-065US. I plan to get a samsung SSD EVO or PRO 250/256

I am aware that my laptop has one extra place for a regular hard drive or ssd. My question is, will a SSD fit in with out any hassle ie having to buy an adapter?

Will this be as easy as swooping the drives and re-installing windows on the SSD? I plan to use the SSD as primary Hard drive n 1tb as storage. Secondly How do i get my windows key from the OS? will there be a sticker at the bottom of my laptop?

    Guys let me know
    Regards
    George

What I would recommend with a new/current system:

Create a Recovery DVD('s) as soon as you turn on the system.

Remove the original HDD and put in the SSD.

Restore from the DVD('s) you just made (no Windows key needed...).

Once the system is configured/updated and working 100% to your satisfaction; format the original shipping HDD (removing all partitions too, of course).

Now, you can use both as you want to (optimally).

The only thing I think may slow you down: if you didn't order the system with two HDD's installed, you may not have the drive cage/screws/cabling to install a second drive...

(Yeah; they just saved $0.50 by not including it...).

I would rather spend up to order it with the cheapest 2nd HDD installed (and ensure that it contains everything you need for a 2 drive configuration as soon as you receive it). Hope I'm wrong in your case and you have all the parts you need.

    Good luck!

No adapter needed. Just plug in the SSD and you are ready to go. My GT70 had only SATA2 available for that extra SSD spot, but the Haswell GT70 notebooks are all SATA3 to get the highest speed for your Samsung SSDs .

Yes. Format the HDD during Windows installation. And install Windows on the SSD. Then you will see both HDD and SSD in windows.

There should be a sticker underneath your notebook that shows the Windows key. If not use, Magical Jelly bean to find the Windows key before you format your HDD. Write it down for future use.

I was hoping that my 128ssd will be my primary drive with out any hassle .. but i dont think that's the case. How do I make my samsung ssd 128 pro my primary drive.

Open up BIOS by pressing the delete key. Find your boot order/sequence and set your SSD as primary/first pick. If you have already done that then did you make sure that you are running under AHCI mode.

just remove the harddrive, and boot into windows to verify that it is in fact working, then shutdown and remove all power sources and put the hdd back in, power on the computer straight into windows, then go to the modern UI and type disk management to enter it

if you have windows 8 pre installed you have to verify that the correct C drive is flagged as Boot, if you have windows 7 pre installed verify that both system and boot is flagged on the SSD, where the MBR partition on the SSD is flagged with "something" (not the MBR partition on the HDD)

the best way to actually get it working is by connecting the hdd with an external enclosure in order to prevent the drive letters from messing up horribly, and if you read the instructions regarding disk clone, you HAVE to disconnect the hdd after you performed the disk clone, power up to windows in order to get the drive letters sorted correctly, otherwise system might assign the master C drive into the HDD
