Hi,
I just bought an MSI MS-171F barebone laptop. I've read that it is intended for the IntelĀ® Penryn 45nm socket P mobile processor
My problem is that I cannot find any high end penryn chips for sale (newegg, ebay, pricewatch)
Are there any other compatible chips? Will any 45nm chip work? Will any socket P chip work?
Thanks for any help, I would really appreciate it.

Any socket P processor will work.
Save for maybe the quads. -

The MSI MS-171F is a monteveina based system.
That system supports a wide range of processors from celeron M's, Pentium Dualcores and the high end core 2 duo's

Your system is based on socket P, so it will support alot of socket P processors.
Please note that the core 2 extreme processors may not work in your laptop. It depends on if the BIOS supports them. The bios does not support any of the quad cores either.
I think your best bet is looking at a processor which has the 1066MHz FSB, so you get the most out of your system. The P8400 through T9800 are good processors to look at.
