Hey all,
I posted this in the MSI forum, and got no responses. I hope somebody has some insight, and figured I'd test the waters on this forum.
Right now I have 1g DDR2 533 RAM in my MS-1022. I might consider upgrading to 2g in the future.
I have read that MSIs might favor one brand of RAM over another, and some might be very crash prone. I have heard a lot about Super Talent and possibly Kingston.
Is there any chance Crucial would work? I am looking for high performing RAM. What would be the best brand to choose, keeping in mind the pickiness of my MSI?
And just another thought, would it be best to buy 2g of the same brand? Or would I see the same results from 2 different brands?

Hi, that was just the msi 1029 model, it downclocked 400mhz ram to 333mhz with 2 sticks, Other models do not experience this problem, it was fixed in bios 2.50 for the 1029 anyway.

Somebody mentioned that MSI's are picky about RAM brands. That is the real question....whether I would be able to buy a stick of something non-specific.
-
Well...if they are picky, and you want to be safe, then post in the MSI sub forum about what specific sticks people have had success with, on your specific laptop.
There's always a possibility that a particular stick of ram may not work well with a particular system. When I bought mine...I bought a cheaper type, but had verified people had used those sticks with success on laptops built on the same motherboard as mine.
Even purchasing a more expensive type of ram does NOT gaurantee compatibility. -
Ahem**^
Check my first post....
What you wrote is good advice! The problem is the relative few people who use the MSI laptops. I was hoping to appeal to those who have experience. No replies after a week in the MSI forum. Thought I'd give the general hardware crowd a shot. -
i have 1gb ram by adata...
my 1029 won't even start... i think because of the ram. if i could boot up and upgrade the bios i would (i think that would fix the problem) but i dont have a spare ram chip to throw in there to do it.
/me waits impatiently for monday when i can call tech support -
Hmm...well...frankly, I'd just start trying some of the standards then. Find some similar chipset machines(I honestly don't know what the MSI's have) and see what they're using. That should be a fairly solid beginning. -
Maybe it was just the 1029, I just figured I'd check. MSI has a Kingston memory finder on their page for the 1022, so I'll go with them if I do upgrade. I've had good luck with Kingston in the past.
