Hey guys!
Im currently investigating whether my MSI GF75 9SD 022 screen can be replaced by something nicer.
The screen in my laptop is a auo479d b173han04.7 by AU optronics, full hd 120hz. 40 pin EDP if im not mistaken.
The thing is, this screen has awful response times. 120 hz doesnt mean a thing i guess. Its choppy as hell, even on 120 fps gaming. i filmed some gameplay in slow motion and you can see the screen stuttering a lot.
I was thinking of upgrading my screen , and have a few questions:
Hope you guys can help me out! It might be i have some settings wrong that makes my screen so stuttery, but im guessing its the panels response time thats making my gaming experience a headache :/
- Would it be possible to upgrade my 120hz screen to let's say a 144hz or 240hz screen?
- would it be possible to upgrade my 120hz screen to a qhd or 4k screen? Power consumption problems possible?
- would it be possible, given the dimensions fit my laptop, to put in another manufacturers screen,as long as it has a Edp40 pin cable connection?
- do these screens have a form factor that is quite universal?
- Can it be possible a screen has a 40 pin connector on the motherboard but a 30 pin going into the display?

here with the same problem... I bought the MSI GP75 thinking that it was 144hz but at the end its 120hz and very sloppy and slow.

I ordered a Chi Mei 144hz panel, n173hce-g33,
It will arrived soon. I will update here if it works. Also, try downloading rtss and see if your frametimes are consistent. The screen is abysmal, but this optimus **** is also causing some issues. I think the Nvidia gpu handles the graphical processing but the intel uhd 630 handles the actual video output (hence the marginal settings in Nvidia control panel)
Either way, ill update here once I fit in the screen. -
just installed the Chi Mei 144hz panel, n173hce-g33, it works like a charm, including brightness controls and 144hz. bought on aliexpress for 95 euros. Really easy to install!
Good luck -
Hi jasperstall86, I created an account here just to ask you what you thought of the new screen compared to the one you replaced. I am awaiting an Asus TUF A17 for 6k video editing, but the screen is supposedly quite bad for that. So, looking for a suitable for editing screen...
Thank you!

So all in all, for 95 dollars, i reccomend it. The chi mei n173hce-g33 was compatible with my msi. -
Thank you Jasperstall86, you saved me $100 by not buying something that isn't any better in the ways I need!
Cheers,
Rick
