Happened during that freak rainstorm & "the rapture" :p
Has my laptop met its final judgement? :(

Yeah... the water droplets almost look fake.

I took it completely apart immediately afterwards. Obviously it hadn't been connected to a power source in a while.

I know its good to put it in rice, but it air dried pretty quickly.
What should I do or check on before reassembling and powering it on?

Put it in a bag of rice for a longer time.

Yeesh, it looks pretty bad, seems like the only thing worse would be total submersion.

The dust from the rice could cause it to short out. Take a hair drier to it for a good while. Let it sit in a ventilated area for a few days, the sun helps too. After about a week that it has been dry, turn it on and see if it works. If it completed dries and there is no corrosion it should be fine. If not rma it and tell them it just died and you don´t know why, unless you have the accidental damage warranty.

Be honest!! That is much more important than the cost of a laptop.

Since it's just water, just letting it air dry for a few days and it should be fine. Although personally, I would give it a thorough cleansing with 99%+ alcohol (not the kind you drink, moonshine would be too sticky. :p) to make sure no residue is left that could short something out.

^My opinion as well. (yes homemade alcohol is too yeasty also :p) There are no longer any signs of moisture whatsoever, it looked completely dry less than 12 hours afterwards and now its been 5 days.
I even peeled back the isolation tape for the GPU and found nothing.

    Really? I'm worried that
    A) too much weight from the rice will put pressure on it and warp the board
    B) I don't have enough rice (I WILL still eat it anyway...)
    What do you mean?
It hadn't been powered on for a few days. I understand thats better than most cases already. I thought you knew these things? :p
Short out from what? Static electricity? The CMOS voltage??
I might bring it in the sun for a few minutes... Although that heat could also cause things to warp badly...
    Are you guys serious? :p
    Did look at the pictures??

You don't think the MSI tech would have more of a problem replacing the ms-1651 motherboard in a gx630 chassis with a modified gt627 heatsink, fx 3700m card and q9200 cpu? LOL...

get a box, put rice, put laptop, it dont need to be completely filled with rice.

I second, (third?) the rice option.

Don't pour the rice onto the notebook - simply put it in as small a box/enclosed space as possible and it will suck out all the moisture in the air - including any remaining moisture inside the nooks and crannies of the motherboard (and there is still moisture in there...).

Leave it for 2 to 3 days in as warm a location as possible and hopefully your machine will boot right up.

    Good luck.
