Hello,
I have an MSI GT780DXR Laptop which came stocked with a Nvidia Geforce GTX570m...
Over about two years I slowly used up the 570m and had a black screen,
after some fiddling I decided to get the GTX675m since it would fit with my heatsink.
There were not a lot of them available so I didn't have much of a choice with the manufacturer,
Thus I could only locate a Dell manufactured card.
Basically Nvidia cannot detect my GPU, to spite it clearly working fine since I can boot and have a display with the GTX675m installed.
I removed all of my old drivers, updated my windows, and updated my motherboard BIOS.
From what I can find in other posts my issue lies in the vBIOS of the 675m.
Apparently several people have difficulty getting Nvidia to read their 675m's based on their vBIOS.
I have essentially no experience with this type of thing...
I educated myself on the process of flashing the vBIOS using NVFlash and bootable USB,
I feel comfortable with the actions of the process, but I am terrified of picking the wrong vBIOS or screwing up in some way.
Does anyone by chance have experience with the GTX675m and its vBIOS?
Basically I just want to be pointed to the correct vBIOS that wont brick my card.
I have read posts on this forum and others where individuals where using customized vBIOS made by a user named SVI7, to fix certain compatibility issues.
Again I have very little experience but I believe I need to perhaps put an MSI vBIOS on the 675m?
I have heard that there can be errors like loss of hdmi or vga ports when using different manufacturers vBIOS,
honestly I wouldn't mind losing ports or LCD dimming as long as I can get the card recognized and the drivers installed![]()
Also I am worried that if I put a new vBIOS on the card, don't brick it, and don't fix my compatibility issues...
would I be able to put Dell vBIOS back on the card and make it essentially the same as when I installed it? i.e. could I return it to the vender to try another card like maybe just another 570m?
Or should I not risk it and just try to send back the card now? can I even do that after installation and paste?
One thing I have certainly learned from this experience...
this will be my last laptop, desktop all the way![]()
If anyone could point me to a safe vBIOS or even just instill a small amount of confidence in me I would be forever grateful.![]()
much love and thanks in advance.

i also would've suggested what wittengstein suggested.
I would be interested in knowing how you are advancing in this process as I, too, want to change my gpu (and we have similar rigs), what was your bios version? where did you find an update ?
I would very much appreciate it if you could lend me a hand on my thread ^^ http://forum.notebookreview.com/hardware-components-aftermarket-upgrades/756285-how-upgrading-laptop-gpu-560m-medion-2.html

Thanks for the push in the right direction WittgensteinSergeant.
I used NVFlash and put the MSI vBIOS that you suggested on the card.
So far so good, Nvidia recognized it immediately, got the new drivers and did a benchmark run of Skyrim on Ultra High with the Civil War Mod on loading into a save in the middle of a battle lol.
If your not familiar with the mod it basically makes about 300 extra NPC's spawn and fight each other.
Barely even kicked my fans on, ran perfectly..
Same with my visualizer, running like liquid gold.
I'll post here if there are any more developments or future problems -
Guys you're better off putting a 770m in your notebooks. Better performance (almost 680m) and cooler card. If you search on the MSI subforum, you'll find cases of people who did it successfully.

Starlight5 Yes, I'm a cat. What else is there to say, really?
Seriously?! Why you guys risk bricking the card by flashing potentially incompatible vBIOSes and getting pissed in the process, when you could simply modify drivers a bit, which is perfectly safe and quite fast, and voila?! You really abuse my sense of logic!
If the only problem you encounter is having to modify drivers prior to installation and you're lazy - you simply modify card id in its own vBIOS to match one whitelisted for your vendor.
Only if you have real compatibility problems like ports not working, etc - there is a reason to flash different vBIOS. -
very nice to hear that it worked =)
i, on my side, will have a look in the msi subforums then, (maybe a link to guide me ? =p ) -
Hi guys, I hope this thread is not dead yet...
I experience simillar problems with my stocked GTX 570m GPU on my MSI GT780DX laptop...started as random shut downs, so I thought changing thermal compound would help, but that helped for just about 2-3 months and the problem was back...and started shuting down even when in idle state and then couldnt even boot WIN before shuting down again...I found out its the GPU dying out as this happens aprox. after 2 years to many other people I found out on web.
So I decided to buy another GPU unit from eBay, but the seller forgot to mention, its from a DELL laptop. So when I installed it, there was just a black screen and apparently incompatible GPU MXM module with my MSI motherboard (it looks nearly identical though as mine stock).
I really dont know much about bios/vbios flashing and compatibilities, but do you think its possible to somehow flash and use this DELL 570m card in my laptop...or should I send it back for refund (the shipping costs from my country are approx. 1/2 of its normal price) ?
Thank you very much for any advice you can give me...
