im thinking about buying a MSI-1022 from rawpower but i'm a bit worried about the sound b/c i dont want to disturb people during lecture

i want a 7200RPM one b/c its faster but was wondering if i should get a slower one if sound is going to be an issue

well im not sure, do i even need a 7200rpm one or is 5400rpm good enough for adobe photshop CS2 and autoCAD?

I read the review and the guy had a 5400rpm

In lecture nobody's going to hear your hard drive. If anything, they'll hear the fan, and even that's practically inaudible. By far the noisiest thing is typing, and if everyone else has a laptop, your system isn't going to stand out at all. Just about any laptop hard drive you get is going to be relatively quiet, and nothing like a desktop drive.

That being said, if you want a quiet, cool-running drive, nothing beats a Seagate.

Not sure about CAD, but the only way 7200rpm will affect CS2 is shortening level load times; while this is nice, it might not be worth the extra money to you. Generally, get a 5400rpm drive at least, and you'll be all right. Avoid Toshiba drives at all costs.

I should've been more specific in my review...and I appologize.

When I said the hard drive is the noisiest part of the machine I didn't mean that it is "noisy". I just meant that it is more audible than I thought. I use it in class everyday at my university. It is far and away quieter than the Dell's everyone else uses. DO NOT worry about the hard drive noise...you probably won't even notice it. In fact, even I have stopped noticing it when I don't look for flaws any longer....what a satisfying feeling that is!!!

This is a magnificent machine! The great thing is that I believe rawpowerpc now carries Hitachi or Seagate drives. Though the Samsung is great, I may have gone with one of those....now you have that option!

    Thanks ttupa,
I am using the ms-1022 right at this moment. You were right, the harddrive is a bit more audible than I thought but im not complaining.
I ordered from rawpower and the thing is, they pick the brand of harddrive based on whats in stock, however they can put in a harddrive brand of our choice but with a bit more money of course. I didn't want to put in the extra dough, so i just got whatever they gave me. Its fine though, its a great laptop.

    cheers

What kind of hard drive did you end up getting?
