Is it possible? I'm heavily considering building a Qosmio X305 (It's my dream laptop!). I've always wanted one, and I finally found the extremely rare 9800M GTS SLI card that I have been desperately craving for a long time. Because I found it, I'm going to start building one straight away!

If the card was to break, Would it be possible to repair it somehow without resorting to an oven? These cards are extremely rare, and finding them is slim to none. I'd prefer a reball job done, but I'm wondering if that is doable on such a card.

That's what I was going to suggest... from what I understand, that's generally considered to be the most straightforward way, at least for the average person without specialized equipment. Disclaimer: I've been very lucky with my 8600M GT's, and have never had a failure, so I've never had to personally look into these options (just read about it a fair amount on NBR back in '08 or so).

Hopefully someone else will be able to answer more definitively, but tentatively I'll say probably not.

Because it's such a special card, Would an experienced technician be able to reball it at all? Pic related is the card. It's a very, very strange thing with two 9800m GTS' on it. $(KGrHqIOKioE0qDeiF!CBNYrNJj,iw~~_1.JPG

Not only a technician (with BGA rework station) would be able to reball it with leaded balls (some claim that they are better), but he could swap both cores with couple of GTX 280ms :D So, if I were you I would look forward to their failing and start saving money. Better yet, if you have the money, skip the waiting... this is if you want the performance of course :D

    >gtx 280m's

Holy crap.. That would work? Would that even be possible in an x305?

And thanks for answering my question. It's nice to see that it can be repaired! :D
