Hey guys, I was wondering if it's even possible to upgrade the ram on my Sony Vaio VGN-NR220E. It has:

    Pentium Core Dual Processor *T2230*
    Currently 1gb of ram
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit OS

I need it to run faster if possible. I run an audio production program *DAW* FL STUDIO 8...and it runs extremely slow. Please let me know what you guys think.

You can upgrade your ram to 4gb's of ram if you have a intel 965gm chipset ( im pretty sure you do ). Could you download cpu-z and check your chipset. Your cpu is upgradeable. You can use any 800mhz FSB socket P cpu if you have an intel 965 chipset meaning you could use any of these ( only listed ones worth upgradeing too )

    Core 2 duo
    T8100 2.1ghz 3mb l2 cache 800mhz FSB
    T8300 2.3ghz 3mb l2 cache 800mhz FSB
    T9300 2.5ghz 6mb l2 cache 800mhz FSB
    T9500 2.6ghz 6mb l2 cache 800mhz FSB
I reccomend getting the T8100 or a t8300 they arent that expensive on ebay around $100-$200 and will be a major upgrade
By the way your current cpu is
T2230 1.6ghz 1mb l2 cache 533mhz FSB and its 65nm the 4 CPU's i listed above are 45nm so they run a bit cooler and faster because they can fit more transistors on the die because they are smaller. By the way here is a picture of your motherboard

He's got a GL960 according to Google. Officially the GL960 only supports Celerons and Pentium Dual-Cores; 667MHz and 800MHz FSB Socket P processors will usually work, but it can't be guaranteed. Officially the GL960 only supports 2GB of memory; 3GB will usually work as well, but it can't be guaranteed.

Adding RAM won't make your system that much faster, it's you CPU which is slow. It's quite expensive change, take a look around.

You might save yourself the hassle and just decide it's time to upgrade you laptop to Core 2 Duo.

I second Pikachu. Selling the Sony on Ebay will fetch you ~$250-350. Just add the difference and get your self a C2D based laptop and avoid the hassle of upgrading. I just priced a Lenovo T400 for just under $900 with their current 20% off coupon (USPTHINKBIG expires 3/10).

What? It is the 1gb of ram that is slowing him down. Vista should have no less than 2gb minimum.

I still think it is the CPU, but here's a no cost diagnosis, borrow someone's RAM to get 2GB in total and see whether the performance increase is worth your time. It's free and you can then make an informed decision.

The less ram is slowing his system down. The slower CPU is slowing down his program when it needs to calculate somthing.

definately get a memory upgrade. 1GB RAM and Vista is like syrup. Min. 2GB RAM on Vista... Processor is fine (...enough) -You might want to check for an upgrade, though, with your chipset, I doubt a processor upgrade will be worth it. Your call though

try OC the cpu with setFSB. a 400 mhz OC will be of immense value to u along with that extra 1GB of ram
