I am looking for a 2GB stick of PC2-5300 for my notebook (see signature) The cheapest one i found was "Major Brand". Should I buy it? Does the brand really matter? Will i see better proformance/heat/life? thanks for all help.

I never heard of that brand. I would say stick to a reputable brand like corsair, or oxz, or crucial, or kingston or several others. You won't see a difference, but it's just better to know you have a quality stick in there rather than some cheapo that might give out and have no way of replacing.

Yeah, that means generic at some resellers, and at others it just means they'll give you whatever's cheapest among brands like Kingston, Corsair, Crucial, or sometimes PNY, A-Data, Transcend...

I wouldn't take the chance, memory quality is very important to the overall stability of your machine and integrity of your data. See my rant in the Crucial vs OCZ thread a couple days ago.
