Hello all,
I have a problem and am looking for any help possible. I have a Clevo based machine (d470u platform) with a 9600 mobility and a 17" display
@ 1440x900. The display panel is broken and I have put a panel out of another clevo that I have at my shop. Both panels are the same physical dimension and brand, however, the working panel is 1680x1050. All connectors are the same and the 1680 panel works just fine in the machine except it does not use the full panel.
The video bios is only seeing the panel as a "1440x900 panel" and thus only uses 1440 H pixels and 900 V pixels thus creating 2 inches of garbage on the right side of the screen and 1.5 inches of garbage on the bottom of the screen. If anyone can help me, knows of someone who can help me, knows of a forum more proper for this kind of problem or can officially tell me that I am F#$%ed that would be great.

you could try reinstalling your GPU Driver and see if that solves the problem.

If the BIOS sees it as the wrong resolution, it's either a BIOS issue or LCD controller issue.

I'm usually the last person to suggest flashing your BIOS, but you might try that too, if the other suggestions don't help.

If you're just changing the panel without swapping the controller that is probably your issue. If you're changing the whole thing you might need to upgrade the BIOS.... Other than that, I don't really know.

It may be hard-coded into the video BIOS as well. Can you swap the video cards to follow the display, or is it soldered in/integrated video somehow?

BUMP:: Thanks for the input, Ive tried different drivers and I swapped the lcd controller with the panel. The video card/chip is hard wired on the board. I am currently looking for a ABIOS for the card but am having some difficulties. It is a 9600 pro mobility 128mb, but I can only seem to find a BIOS for standard 9600 and not the mobility(except for the Dell mobility driver) are the standard 9600 and the mobility (M10 rv350) use the same Bios?? If anyone could help that would be great. Thanks!!

you could try it... i've flash bios's to boards that they weren't 100% identical before without a problem. there's some special commands you need to make it go, though, which i'm not remembering off the top of my head. but when you do that you should use a floppy drive, so you can backup the current bios, so if something goes wrong you can (hopefully) reflash to the old one.
